TCAN

Over the previous seven weeks, John Courage, chair of TCAN’s board of directors, and Teri Sperry, our executive director, have been meeting with members of the Lege—both House members and senators, Republicans and Democrats—discussing and reviewing proposed legislation.

As we have outlined in our organizational mission statement, we are advocating for ethics reform, campaign finance reform, redistricting reform, voter access, clean elections, and government transparency. We have identified dozens of pending bills that address these issues in one way or another and have evaluated them in relation to their potential effect on Texas government. You can read about the pending bills that TCAN supports by clicking on the Legislation link in the right sidebar. As bills are still being filed, we continue to monitor them and update our list. Your feedback is welcome!

We also have been meeting with representatives of other organizations that are working at the Texas Legislature this session and that share many of our goals. Together we are forming an effective coalition of like-minded groups to collaborate on passing good legislative reforms by engaging the grassroots through the media, public forums, and direct citizen actions.
