Voting Bills
Texas
Currently, in the early weeks of this 80th Texas Legislative Session, more than twenty bills relating to elections have been filed and referred to committees. They cover such election and voting issues as changing polling locations, election day as a holiday, “super-polling sites,” same-day voter registration, voter ID, poll taxes (ratifying the 24th Amendment), qualifying and disqualifying voters, getting ballots to people serving in the military overseas, and electronic voting machines.
TCAN is monitoring all of these legislative issues and has developed a list of proposed bills that we are supporting. Likewise, we are tracking legislation that we oppose and recommend that our supporters oppose, and we will soon publish that list here on our website as well. Our goals in this area are to protect voting rights, empower more voting participation, and ensure fair, honest, and accurate elections.
Federal
TCAN has similar objectives at the federal level. We will be monitoring federal elections and voting legislation and will be posting our recommendations on these issues in the near future.
