Clean Elections for Texas: It’s for Real.

Would it surprise you to hear that there’s a single legislative reform that will set us on course to solve our health care, school funding, energy, and environmental problems?

If so, you haven’t heard about Clean Elections.

Clean Elections, an opt-in system of publicly funded campaigns, is a way for average citizens to run for office without having to romance a bunch of Big Money donors. Let’s review a few facts about conventional campaigns:

  • They’re way too expensive.
  • Special interests have way too much influence.
  • Candidates and lawmakers spend way too much time chasing money.
  • Way too many good people don’t participate.
  • There are way too many loopholes in our campaign finance laws.

The Clean Elections (CE) remedy is already in place in several states, including two that are demographically similar to Texas. In Arizona, CE has been in place for over 8 years. In New Mexico, voters have just passed their second CE measure. Albuquerque even has a CE system for local races. CE is also well established in a number of other states. There is even a U.S. Senate bill that would clean up federal races.

Among voters and elected officials, challengers and incumbents, Republicans and Democrats, Clean Elections is wildly popular in virtually every state that has passed it.

We’re jealous.

But we’re not sitting still. Instead, the True Courage Action Network (TCAN) has launched a serious, organized, strategic, statewide campaign to bring Clean Elections to Texas. And we need you to be part of it.

We’re partnering with groups and individuals throughout the state and forming a strong network of knowledgeable, well-trained, and committed activists who are working to ensure that We the People start calling the shots in Texas.

Want candidates who will spend time with average voters?
Want the people to have a voice in deciding public policy in Texas?
Want to see a more diverse pool of candidates?
Want to see more public interest in state politics?
Want to put Texas in a positive leadership position?

Then help us make Texas the first large state to adopt this measure!

Here’s what you can do to help:

  • Host or co-host a house party for Clean Elections. We make it easy and fun!
  • If you can’t throw a party, attend one. Check our online Event Center frequently to find one near you.
  • Invite a TCAN rep to make a CE presentation at your civic group or club. Just give us a call at 512-445-9020 or email us.
  • Volunteer. Just fill out the Clean Elections Pledge, and we’ll help you figure out how to put your energy to work.
  • Donate to TCAN to support our CE organizing and advocacy efforts. We can’t do it without your dollars.

Whatever your level of interest, time, skills, and resources, we have a way for you to make a fundamental change in the way Texas government works.
