Clean Elections (CE) is an opt-in program that adds another choice to the way elections can be conducted. It is not a restriction.
The cost is dollars per citizen — far less than the hidden costs we’re paying now for a government that is beholden to special interests.
In Arizona and Maine, it has been in use for a number of years and is wildly popular. A number of localities and other states have passed CE measures more recently. There is also a national campaign for “Fair Elections,” which is very similar but affects U.S. House and Senate races.
CE has withstood numerous court challenges from suits filed by the seats-for-sale lobby (the same people who rail against “frivolous” lawsuits such as those that protect the environment).
